Advances in modern orthodontics have more adults than ever asking “should I get clear braces?”.  And, considering just how discreet and effective clear aligners, it makes sense to straighten your smile – no matter your age. At Scott Street Dental we are committed to offering our patients the latest in dental and orthodontic technology.

What Are Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are discreet orthodontic devices that are worn over the front of your teeth. Most people around you can’t even tell that you are wearing them, yet they apply a constant pressure on your teeth, to move them into the correct position.

Why Bother With Aligners?

Having straight teeth is not just a matter of aesthetics, straight teeth are also important for dental hygiene. It is much easier for bacteria to get caught between crooked teeth, as they are more difficult to clean, leading to cavities and decay. Straightening your teeth is an investment in your future dental health.

Traditional metal braces are very noticeable, and can often be a deterrent for people who need orthodontic treatment. Clear aligners allow you to live your life confidently and straighten your smile at the same time.

Because they do require some maturity in terms of wear time and hygiene, clear braces are usually best suited to older patients, although they can be worn by anyone over the age of 12 who have all their adult teeth.

How Can Clear Aligners Straighten Teeth?

Clear aligners are usually recommended to treat mild to moderately crooked teeth. They can also correct overcrowding and irregular gaps, open bites, overbites and cross-bites.

How Does The Process Work?

Before you begin you will have an assessment with your dentist. A 3D simulation will be created, to show how your teeth will shift at each stage of the treatment. You will also be able to see what your smile will look like once your treatment is complete.

Your clear braces will be created, based on the 3D model that has been created, to fit your unique measurements.

You will be given a few different aligner sets at the beginning of your treatment, with a timeline that explains when you need to change to the next set.

You can expect to wear your clear braces for 18 to 22 hours a day, in order to achieve your treatment goals.

It is important to wear your clear aligners exactly as instructed by your dentist, in order to meet your treatment goal outcomes.

How Long Does Treatment Take With Wonder Smile?

Everyone’s case is different but many patients using clear braces see results in as little as nine months. It is important to remember that you must wear a retainer after your treatment is complete, to prevent your teeth from slipping back into their former positions.

What Are The Benefits Of Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are discreet and wearers don’t have to worry about the self confidence issues that often bother people who wear traditional metal braces. Clear braces do not interfere with patients’ willingness to smile or feel good about the way they look as they are improving their smile.

Patients do not have to see their dentists as often with clear aligners. When you wear traditional braces you need to make regular visits to your dentist to have them adjusted. Instead of adjustments, clear aligners simply require you to move onto the next set. This makes a very big difference to your quality of life, and makes orthodontic treatment a lot less invasive in your day-to-day life.

Patients also find wearing clear aligners much more comfortable than traditional braces, which can be uncomfortable and irritating to the mouth. Some patients do report a feeling of tightness after the aligners have been fitted, but you usually adjust to this feeling quite quickly afterwards.
